Blizzard is carrying out a beta test for the Overwatch World Cup Viewers. It is a bit of technology that will allow viewers to watch the upcoming Overwatch World Cup through the Battle.net. By giving viewers access to the entire camera tools previously reserved for Overwatch League’s professional esports observers. Well, it seems a very exciting news for the gamers of Overwatch game.
Viewers will be able to watch the World Cup from inside Overwatch. They will have full camera control from a variety of perspectives including first- and third-person. Besides that it will let the top-down view with character icons that casters sometimes use during Blizzard-hosted esports broadcasts.
The Beta Version
The PC-only beta feature will let you view live matches from any perspective, including a top-down map view that shows players’ statuses. When a match is over, you can watch replays at different camera speeds as well. If you want to see how that D.Va player wiped an entire team, you can slow the replay down to study their actions.
The beta release, which is available through a special version of Overwatch, is focusing on the World Cup. But Blizzard says that they will make the technology available for all game-play types on all supported platforms. By that one can analyze a friendly match between friends if you wanted, similar to what you can do with titles like League of Legends.
Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan says that by beta testing these viewing tools during the Overwatch World Cup. Viewers are helping test a technology that the OW team hopes to bring to “all platforms and match types.” The obvious implication here is that these tools will be rolled out for the upcoming second Overwatch League season, just as last year’s OWWC first introduced the team-specific in-game color schemes that were then used in the inaugural OWL season.”
