Xnor’s saltine sized solar power AI hardware has opened the new potential to scale AI across, societies, industries and to even the most remote geographies. The solution produced a hardware device able to intelligently perceive visual objects, including people.

This breach through machine learning and computer architecture idea is there to get to superior power efficiency. So that even state-of-the-art deep learning models, previously dependent on powerful GPUs, can be powered by a simple solar cell.

According to the company, power and its consumption was the blockage they beat to get AI onto CPU- and power-limited. So, the company decided to come with the idea to build such AI platform that should not needed any outer power source. And after the one year of hard work, they have done it.
The question is, what that hardware is, Xnor’s saltine-sized, solar-powered AI hardware is small board like gadget. It has a smaller camera with resolution about 320×240; an FPGA loaded with the object recognition model. Not only that, it can handle smaller amount of memory for image and camera software and a small solar cell. All in all, it a very simple wireless setup allows it sends and receives data at a very humble rate.
The device is build to perform a serious computer vision task in real time. The device can detect many things like, where a person, other objects like car, birds or what so ever in fraction of second. So it performs all such thing with efficiently when these objects come in its field of view. And relay that info wirelessly.
