Google Maps has now allowed the social media apps by letting you add hashtags to reviews of local enterprises. It allows the readers to tap on them to find out more about the specific topic. Now, the users who leave reviews for local business can include hashtags in their write-ups and readers can tap those hashtags to find them. For example, if you’re reviewing a restaurant that would make an excellent #vegetarian spot, you can simply add the appropriate hashtags. Or if the business is #friendly or #coolmanagement, you can note those sorts of things as well.

Google Maps rather quietly launched the new feature, which is meant at helping users discover places others have recommended. Google says s that users add up to five hashtags per review, and place them at the end of the review to make the text easier to catch.

The Tech

Google has confirmed to support for hashtags rolled out globally just over a week ago on Android devices. So far, it’s only known to the members of Google Maps’ Local Guides program. The program is set for its members for sharing their reviews, photos and knowledge about businesses and other places they visit. While the guide were asked to go back and add hashtags to their old reviews, as well as include them on new ones.

The more focus is to make the Google map more friendly user.  According to Google it will be more informative and it all about adding the correct information about the things, places etc. In addition to helping people find restaurants by cuisine or by their taste different hashtags can also highlight local renowned places.  As Google suggest e.g. as #goodforselfies or a great place for #sunsetviews or other available tags. The tags can note the accessibility features offered, too
