Opera is making a free, unlimited VPN to its Android browser. It’s getting out the VPN steadily to beta users first before making it more widely available. The company announced that its Android browser app will begin offering a free VPN. There are also options to turn off the VPN while searching so you get more localized results and to only activate it on private tabs.
Moving to the VPN means that user traffic data isn’t collected by Opera, while it makes it harder for websites to track location and user data. There are granular settings too, which include limiting VPN usage to private tabs and switching it off for search engines to get more local results.
Opera’s free VPN
Previously, Opera had a VPN app for Android and iOS, which it shut down last year when the app’s developers left the company. Baking a VPN directly into the browser means people won’t necessarily need to grab an extra app to use one, and it should afford them an extra layer of privacy protection. It’s not clear if or when Opera will bring the VPN to its iOS app, but Opera’s desktop browser includes one.
The beta app gives you a couple of different options for how you use the VPN. As well as being able to manually choose which continent you want your virtual location to be in. it will be an automatic ‘Optimal’ option is the default. User can also specify when exactly you want the VPN to apply. User can set the VPN to be used only for web pages opened in private tabs. Not only have that, user can also chosen to disable it when your access searches engines. But on the other hand, if you want them to be able to gather the kind of location and tracking information that can lead to more relevant results.
