Apple desires that people around the world as many as the possible should have access to its upcoming streaming video service. It does not caring whether these people have or don’t have the Apple TV. So, for non-apple TV users, Roku could add Airplay 2 supports. It’s been working with a number of TV makers on AirPlay 2 and iTunes compatibility. So, they can easily watch Apple’s original shows and movies on larger screens.

Apple and Roku are currently confirming a launch date and working on the marketing surrounding AirPlay 2 support on Roku media boxes. AirPlay 2 will allow Roku users to stream video, audio, photos, and other content directly from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac to their smart TVs.

Roku and Airplay 2

With the expansion of AirPlay 2 support to TVs and media boxes, Apple will be able to better take on Google Cast. That has become an enormously accepted way to stream content from one’s smartphone to their TV or other Google Cast-enabled devices. As the year goes on, we are possibly going to see Apple further expand AirPlay 2 support to more devices.

Looking at the initial report, Airplay 2 support would come in the form of a software update, rather than requiring those who own Roku hardware to buy new devices. The update would more than likely allow those who have Roku-enabled smart TVs, such as those from TCL, access to Airplay 2, and would only serve to grow the number of supported TVs on the market.

It seems that Apple has made a somber budge on that front when it comes to AirPlay 2. It is the wireless video and audio streaming protocol. The Aiprplay2 has been associated with many TVs, includes Samsung, LG, Sony, and Vizio.

Now, Airplay 2 would allow iPhone, iPad, and MacOS users to stream video, audio, photos, and more directly to the screen of their Roku-connected TV, providing an instant upgrade that would likely have many ditching the dongles they previously used to connect to their TV screen.
