The world is getting smarter so are the things. In the era of e-bikes every company is making them to attract more customers. So is the Tern Bicycles company, it has lunched the new smarter and extremely compatible HSD e-bike. Tern’s folding e-bikes have always been ruthlessly practical, but the HSD takes things up a notch. With fully adjustable ergonomics, it’s also kitted out with super-solid racks front and rear that are ready to take over the every day job.
Besides that the HSD is really well thought out. It is relatively small, shorter than a standard bike, low to the ground so that it is easy for people of almost all heights. The e-bike has a really low center of gravity for stability.
HSD e-Bike
Tern says “it’ll carry a week’s worth of groceries or camping equipment for the weekend. It even has a dedicated trailer hitch mount, so adding extra cargo is a cinch.” It’s designed from the ground up to perform number of tasks. According to company, “Many ebikes on the market look like standard bikes with motor systems and batteries wedged in,” stated Josh Hon, Tern Team Captain. “We started the HSD project with the goal of designing a better, more useful, ebike. That meant wiping away pre-conceived notions for things like frame design, riding geometry, and wheel size. The result is the HSD, a small bike that is just much more useful.”
Coming to its foldability, The HSD slides into the middle of Tern’s e-bike range, between the ultra-compact Vektron and the extra-long GSD. Thus, it is basically designed to bring cargo-bike carrying capacities into a form that’s easier to ride. Thus, Tern has kept the HSD small enough to be portable, and also given it quite a hauling capacity – up to a maximum gross vehicle weight of 170 kg (374 lb).
While, taking about other aspects, there’s a Suntour suspension fork up front, and big, fat, bouncy-looking Schwalbe tires with RaceGuard puncture protection on board. Besides that, some models have Thudbuster suspension saddles, and there’s hydraulic disc braking and a built-in Abus frame lock for quick stops. The handlebars and seat are adjustable to suit every type of riders.
On the other hand, all three models come with hydraulic disc brakes, but the top two offer the high-end Magura MT4 brakes. The S+ also comes standard with a Cane Creek Thudbuster suspension seat post to offer added suspension. It also features a 500 Wh Bosch battery, while the lower two tiers sport 400 Wh Bosch batteries.
