The Chinese company Alibaba is launching its own voice assistant system, similar to the Alexa. The digital assistant has been around for a while, but it’s finding its way into Chinese-market cars from an increasing list of manufacturers. Digital assistant becomes the hottest topic and demand since the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto launched. So, China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba is getting even deeper into the game with its Tmall Genie Auto smart speaker.

The Tmall Genie is launched back in 2017, with an automotive-friendly version hitting the market in 2018. Now, it has improved version and allows lot more services.

The details are revealed that the auto makers like Audi, Honda and Renault will have speech-recognition technology. So, the users in China will soon be able to “ask” their cars for everything from restaurant suggestions to movie tickets.

Miffy Chen, general manager at Alibaba AI Labs said, “We are thrilled to partner with global, distinguished auto brands such as Audi, Renault and Honda. Together, we can greatly enhance our in-car services and make driving experiences more intelligent and interconnected. He further said that Tmall Genie Auto enables car users to access a rich in-car infotainment portfolio by tapping into Alibaba’s rich content and service ecosystem.

On the other hand, the new smart assistant for cars will allow owners to perform different things. Users can select models to request recommendations for nearby places to eat, buy movie tickets and even order food for delivery as well. It means that in the near future, the speaker will to monitor and control smart devices at houses equipped with a Tmall Genie-compatible device. These devices may include lights, air conditioners and heaters, from their vehicles.
