The Foldable Smart phone, which is currently nameless, is essentially a clamshell device. There is a regular display on the front for standard smartphone use when the device is closed. Samsung has been teasing long for its foldable smartphone. Now the company has unveiled it for the first with details. Samsung calls its foldable phone technology the Infinity Flex Display, and the phone itself has a tablet-sized screen that can be folded up to fit into a pocket.
Samsung senior vice president of mobile marketing, Justin Denison, showed off the phone. The phone becomes a tablet when it’s fully opened and then a phone when it’s closed. It has a new display technology called Infinity Flex Display. It allows the phone to open, close and over without any degradation.
The Specs
Samsung has provided more details about its upcoming foldable device. The company aims to have battery life that lasts as long as current Galaxy SmartPhones. While still, despite the fact there’s more screen that drains the battery. Coming to the Cover Display of this new smartphone, the device is closed and looks more like a regular phone. It is 4.58 inches and phone has a 21:9 aspect ratio. Samsung says that it has a resolution of 840×1960, with a screen density of 420 dpi.
When of the official said, “Compared to the Main Display, the experience is more … optimized for focused and handy and quick access and interaction, to leverage the small screen. When the device is unfolded, the Cover Display will turn off and go black”, he added.
The Main Display, the bigger screen you see when unfolding the phone, is 7.3 inches and with a 4.2:3 aspect ratio. Samsung says the resolution is 1536×2152, with a screen density of 420 dpi. Well, according to Denison that this new Smartphone can run up to three apps simultaneously, by using something Samsung calls multi active window. Samsung says it will be able to start mass production of the Infinity Flex Display in a “matter of months”.
On the other hand, Samsung isn’t the only phone maker working on foldable devices, though. The Royole Flexpai is already released its foldable phone in the market. Huawei also plans to release a foldable handset next year. Lenovo and Xiaomi have also started teased their own prototypes.
