The Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed exerts the appearance of the original Basilisk, with its extensive thumb grip, pointed front design, and slanted exterior. But, it makes some adjustments. For one, it’s more manageable and has a more fundamental grip configuration. The left side has two thumb buttons. The rough scroll wheel doesn’t have any specific modifications. There’s no RGB, and the DPI switch only has one light. It also uses Razer’s mechanical switches.

Design

The design also appears to obtain some ideas from the Logitech G502 Hero, with bright layers cutting across the otherwise matte black plastic of the mouse. The mouse dimensions 130mm x 60mm x 42mm and weighs 83g without its AA battery, but the battery will surely bump that up to a little over 100g.

There is a position to adjust the DPI settings and buttons using Razer Synapse, though. Nevertheless, given the restricted number of buttons, we found it easiest to just leave the bindings at their default.

Performance

Many gamers may still bother about wireless connections for gaming mice, but they’ve come a long way. The 2.4GHz wireless available to the Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed gives no appreciable latency in our analysis, and that’s while gaming at upwards of 100 frames per second. The mouse also comes out of sleep mode from both clicks and movements, making it more comfortable to duck shooting an NPC in the face right after a long discussion.

While playing through the second half of the Outer Worlds, the Razer Basilisk X never tries to snap our aim on targets. Tracking proves compatible whether we’re making small modifications to keep a remote target in our sights or thrashing around to turn on an enemy approaching from behind us.

Through all that gameplay, the battery isn’t the smallest issue. Razer declares the Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed can work for up to 285 hours using the HyperSpeed Wireless connection and 450 hours using Bluetooth (LE) all from a single AA battery. We haven’t played that long, nor has the battery consumed more than a negligible percentage point.

Plus Points

The capability to use Bluetooth on the go and HyperSpeed at home makes this a convenient mouse to have. You won’t have to trouble about forgetting your USB dongle when you take the mouse out of the house. 

The Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed has a powerful battery life. You could game for an hour every day for about 9 months before running out, or use Bluetooth for a full 9-5 workday for 11 weeks.

For the performance, design, and battery life that Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed has, its price is all the more effective.

Weak Points

The Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed has some weak points as a gaming mouse. You can’t adjust the weight, and there aren’t many buttons to get crazy with fancy binds or macros. 

While the Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed is comparable in some ways, it loses things like the tunable scroll wheel, RGB, and third thumb button. These are trade-offs for affordability. 

While the Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed remarkably lacks the glowing green Razer normally has on products, it does have an obvious game design, with acute edges and a mix of matte and bright black plastics.
