The HMD Global has launched its affordable Nokia smartphone with five-camera flagship and a bunch of low-to-mid end device. The Nokia 2.2 is part of the company’s Android One family of devices and will ship loaded with Android Pie. Once Android Q comes out, the phone will be able to run it, as well. The device also comes with a dedicated Google Assistant button users can press to summon the voice AI.
Following along Nokia’s pattern for the past couple of years, the Nokia 2.2 is also an Android One device. Like the Nokia 3.2 and 4.2, there’s also a dedicated Google Assistant button along the side of the device.
Nokia 2.2
Nokia 2.2 is powered by a quad-core MediaTek A22 CPU chipset and has a 5.71-inch HD+ edge-to-edge display. It also has face unlock, access to Google Lens and a camera AI that helps it take detailed photos in low light conditions. The device is priced at US$112 and is heading to Europe, but going to U.S at the moment.
While talking about the specs, there’s a 2GHz MediaTek Helio A22 quad-core processor under the hood with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage, and there’s a microSD card as well. There’s also a 5.7-inch 720p LCD panel which has a notch housing a 5MP fixed-focus selfie camera. That camera is used for Face Unlock as there’s no fingerprint sensor.
Besides that, there’s a 13MP rear camera at f/2.2 which Nokia touts for low-light. There’s also LTE, microUSB, and a headphone jack. Rounding out the spec sheet is a 3,000 mAh battery. The battery is actually removable, something customers almost never see in 2019. Nokia is also offering “Xpress-on” covers to change up the look.
