When it comes to virtual reality and especially about gaming, it gives best movement of the hands and head. But the games have ultimate problems to track the feet. Now games hardware company Kat is crowd-funding the Kat Loco, with wearable sensors to make the leg movements perfect. Well, a set of three sensors that attach to a player’s feet and hip to translate movements in the real world into walking, running or strafing in the game.

Basically, KAT VR introduced the ‘KAT loco’; a node-based tracking system that appears to fulfill a halfway point between traditional VR thumb-stick locomotion. And it has full-blown omni-directional treadmill locomotion.

Kat Loco Wearable Sensors

Regarding virtual reality, a realistic locomotion system holds the key to immersive game-play. However, despite being approached from many different angles, all traditional VR Locomotion techniques failed to provide an optimal solution capable of integrating high immersion with convenience.

Coming to the VR headsets, the VR industry as a whole has never stopped diving deeper and deeper into virtual world constantly. And they strive for more and more improvement regarding full physicality of VR interactions. So, now it is time for VR Locomotion to follow, thus answering the need of hour, the company launched VR sensor for lower part.

So, with the lower body into play, it allows more freedom to hand moments from controlling body directions. Thus, these sensors allow you to walk with your feet. On the other hand, KAT Loco is the last step to creation of a complete VR system. It will have head control for vision, hand control for manual interactions, and foot control for locomotion. This effectively increases immersion and reduces motion sickness and space limitation.

How the sensors attach and works, there are three small sensors. The first one hooks onto a player’s belt, while the other two strap around each ankle. After that, together with a VR headset and controllers in each hand, the system can track pretty much the whole body.

Besides that, the Kat Loco has a Cruise Control mode too. Using that, players just stick one leg forward and the character will move that way in the game, and steer by moving your hips.
