Vivo has announced the launch of the new APEX 2019 concept smartphone. Vivo’s first 5G smartphone offers an ultra-simple and uniquely recognizable design. The Vivo Apex 2019 is with Curved-Surface Waterdrop Glass and no openings, seams or bezels for a simpler user experience.

There is no Qi wireless charging though, which is a bit of a puzzling omission on a device with no proper charging port. As for the biometric security, the Vivo Apex has one of the first full-display fingerprint readers.

Vivo’s Apex

The Vivo’s Apex 2019 is insistently minimalist, without any physical buttons or port openings in sight, and features a Super Unibody curved glass design. Unsurprisingly there’s no headphone jack, but there isn’t even a USB-C port, either; charging is handled by a rear-mounted magnetic connector that can also be used for data transfer.

The Apex 2019 is Vivo’s first 5G phones and makes use of Qualcomm’s X50 5G modem. Vivo says it’s using a new stacking technique to make 20 percent of extra motherboard space available for the 5G components without compromising the phone’s overall design. Elsewhere the Apex 2019 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM.

APEX 2019 has also solved the challenge of limited motherboard space by using a Duplex PCB Design which has increased the available space by 20% to minimize the overall stacking space. This is Vivo’s solution to free up space for the 5G modules, making the phone a true unibody 5G phone.

As for the dual camera array on the back, there is no information on the specifications. So, it can be assumed that either the device has no front-facing selfie camera or Vivo is about to surprise the world with some in-display camera tech.
