When it comes to power, style and fastest supercars, Lamborghini has no match. And this again, company has chosen a completely different way of introducing a supercar. Guess what it is Lamborghini Sian, the world’s first supercapacitor hybrid supercar. This giant is equipped with screaming, naturally aspirated V12 engine with a super-capacitor-based secondary electric system.
Some companies have been exploring hybrid supercapacitors, which are sort of a mix of batteries and supercapacitors, for potential use in electric vehicles.
Lamborghini Sian
The question is what is Super-capacitors? They are opposed to batteries; offer a unique set of advantages to automakers. They have enormous charge and discharge rates, meaning they can put out huge amounts of power, charge up almost instantly, and pull in a much larger amount of energy through things like regenerative braking, in which a battery’s ability to accept charge becomes a limiting factor. They also don’t deteriorate over time, maintaining their performance over millions of cycles.
While, speaking of its power, it is combined with the V12 engine, to delivers a total of 819 hp (602 kW) and has a top speed of “over 350 km/h.” On the other hand; the supercapacitors are also extremely useful for the car’s regenerative braking system. And because of supercapacitors’ capabilities to recharge almost instantly, they can recuperate the energy from braking and always discharge full power when accelerating.
Besides that, Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini chairman and chief executive officer said, “Not only does the Sián deliver a formidable hypercar design and engineering tour de force today. It augments the potential for Lamborghini as a super sports car brand for tomorrow and for decades to come, even as hybridization becomes more desirable and inevitably essential. The Lamborghini Sián represents the first step in Lamborghini’s route to electrification and expedites our next-generation V12 engine.”
The Power
Besides that, the official says that this ability will make the supercar the fastest-accelerating Lamborghini ever, achieving 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.8 seconds. The improvement in elasticity maneuvers is even more evident. Other than this, the traction force is improved by up to 10% in third gear and the 30 to 60 km/h acceleration time is improved by 0.2 seconds. Not only that, in higher gears and lower speeds the electric motor increases traction force by up to 20%, reducing the 70 to 120 km/h acceleration by 1.2 seconds compared to the Aventador SVJ.
Being a hybrid, the Sián also relies on regenerative braking, juicing up the supercapacitor every time the brake pedal is pressed. Just wait for the further details, The Lamborghini Sián will be unveiled at the Frankfurt IAA motor show 2019 in the next week.
