Bowers & Wilkins is shifting its concentration back to headphones after filling out its wireless development lineup. The British company famous for its sensual home speakers revealed its much-awaited and most prime wireless headphones focused on noise-canceling and high-end sound. Here is the complete hands-on review of Bowers and Wilkins’ new PX7 headphones.
Bowers & Wilkins has released four new wireless headphones models, including over-ear and on-ear models, as well as in-ear neckbuds.
Bowers and Wilkins’ New PX7 Headphones
Design
The PX7 is created to be lighter than previous Bowers & Wilkins headphones, with a carbon fiber and plastic composite used to design the headband; the company says this material is just as powerful as regular aluminum but allows more flexibility at a much lower weight.
Memory foam earcups give a fluffy cushion against your ears, as well as building a good seal that actually prevents environmental noise from spoiling your music. The earcups have solid buttons that enable you to manage your music playback and the intensity of the active noise cancelling feature.
Features
The calling card of the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 Wireless Over-Ear Headphones is their use of Qualcomm’s aptxHD Adaptive codec, which is created to give “robust, low latency, high-resolution wireless technology”, according to the manufacturers.
The PX7 ensures perfect switching between listening modes, so you get high-fidelity audio when listening to music and no delay problems when you’re watching videos or playing games, something modern Bluetooth technology isn’t capable to do.
Battery
Battery life gives you a power backup of 30 hours (when listening to music with ANC turned on), while a fast charge feature provides you five hours of audio playback from a 15-minute charge.
Performance
The bass frequencies were thumpy and warm without overpowering the higher frequencies, while the trebles carried over lots of detail and accuracy.
Price
Bowers & Wilkins headphones are typically more costly than the competition, but there’s not a huge difference in cost when you compare them to the Sony WH-1000XM3 Wireless Headphones.
The new PX7 headphones cost $399.99 / £349.99, which works out at around AU$590
