Electric motorcycles are blossoming on the market. While a lot of the most appealing models are offered by small-volume companies and startups. Along with them some of giants of the industries biggest is joining the race. With all others, Honda’s Big Red is becoming electric. Honda CR Electric dirt bike is the latest edition. On the other hand, KTM has introduced the Freeride EX-C dirt bike while Yamaha went the trials way with the TY-E.

Besides these, other manufacturers like Ducati and Kawasaki are apparently working on emission-free models of their own. A new player has now officially entered the e-game: Honda is going electric with CR Electric dirt bike.

Honda CR Electric Dirt Bike

The Japanese giant surprised everyone by introducing an electric dirt bike prototype at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show, the CR Electric. The frame of the motocross is similar to a standard CR-F 250, that is an aluminum twin-spar structure with a well-known beam framing the engine. Even the block itself is dishonestly similar to a petrol mill if not inspected up close.

The Honda CR Electric prototype is powered by a Maxwell Li-ion battery. From its aluminum twin-spar frame to its Showa suspension, the electric motor-crosser looks ready to run on the terrain.

One the other hand, Honda’s R&D Department did one of coolest thing is that, they have made the CR Electric prototype look like a conventional and combustion-powered motorcycle.  As they have given it a mock cylinder head to using a standard side cover. Keeping things familiar will go a long way toward the mainstream embracing an electric motorcycle.

Despite the style, Honda CR Electric dirt bike utilises high-end components which should make it a competent dirt bike. Based on a twin-spar aluminum frame, the long-travel suspension is sourced by Showa while it features Nissin braking setup. Additionally, the spoke wheels are shod with knobby Dunlop tyres. The electric motor section is designed in a way to make it look like the engine bay of the combustion-based Honda CRF250R
