In the world of extreme sports, The Odyssey 21 is a monster EV designed for a brand-new motorsport. This sports machine is designed to run across glaciers and desserts. The Extreme E electric off-road SUV prototype has been revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed by series founder Alejandro Agag and chairman Gil de Ferran. The first Extreme E season is set to get underway in January 2021. On the other hand, the first championship will take place in the Arctic, the Himalayas. After that, the race will took place in the Sahara desert, the Amazon rain forest and an island in the Indian Ocean.

When comes to extreme sports or extreme terrains, this monster will never let it’s user down. It is truly a beast.

The Odyssey 21

Odyssey 21 prototype is considered a base model for Extreme E. The series notes that “teams will be able to test and develop their own power-train and select areas of bodywork, such as engine cover, front and rear bumpers, side skirt, and lights in a bid to replicate everyday car models.”

Coming to its manufacturing style, the wheels alone measure 940mm (37 inches!) in diameter. Besides that according to Extreme E’s organizers, the body is 2.3 meters (7.5 feet) wide, 1.9 meters (6.2 feet) tall, 4.4 meters (14.4 feet) long. While the monster weighs a whopping 1,650 kilograms (3,638 pounds).

Testing of the prototype will begin in September, with 12 cars set to be delivered by Spark Racing Technology by next March. Group testing will start shortly after that, with the opening race in the Formula E-associated series expected in early 2021.

On the other hand, The 400 kW “Odyssey 21” was built by Spark Racing Technology and has a battery supplied by Williams Advanced Engineering. The two companies also supply the chassis and battery for the Formula E racing cars. The electric off-road racer should be able to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and – probably more importantly for the planned extreme use – overcome gradients of up to 55 degrees.
